Lawrence's Tiny Tuxedo play ecclectic bluegrass and folk
When a band like Lawrence’s Tiny Tuxedo cites influences like Hank Williams, Gillian Welch, The Kinks, and the Ramones you know that your going to hear something unique.
“It’s folk country with some bluegrass, gypsy and rockabilly,” Cainro said about the band’s unique sound.
The band mixes elements of punk rock, bluegrass and other genres to create a sound all their own.
Cainro started the band and has been playing shows in and around Lawrence since the middle of 2007.
Bruchmann also plays in the Syd Barrett tribute band The Gnomes.
“Then one day I met [Jake] Brenton on a balcony while I was playing guitar and he just started banging on a barbeque grill with barbeque utencils and next thing you know we are in a three piece with bass, guitar, drums and quite a few original tunes.”
Upright bass player Bruchmann, singer and guitar player Cainro and drummer Jake Brenton played a number of shows as three piece before adding pianist Allison Olassa to the group.
“Sometime after that in Winfield at the bluegrass festival we added Miss Allison Olassa,” Cainro said. “Although we weren’t sure what she would play, we knew we wanted her in Tiny Tuxedo. Come to find out she had a talent for keys, and a micro organ collecting dust.”
Recently the band played ‘March Mustache Madness Party’ with Lawrence’s The Old Black and Kansas City’s Thunder Eagle where fans with a mustache got in for free.
The band has a number of tracks on their Web site, http://www.myspace.com/tinytuxedomusic.
Tiny Tuxedo will be performing on at 10 p.m. Saturday at Wheat State Grille, 707 Commercial.
