Handful of Hornets receive “full ride”

Several Emporia State students received full-ride scholarships for the 2008-2009 school year.

The Virginia Endly Memorial Scholarship was founded in honor of the sister of H. Merle Endly. Endly was a student of the Kansas Teacher’s College, now ESU, where he earned a master’s degree in business in 1943. Endly’s sister, Virginia, earned a degree at the College of Emporia and later became a professor at South Dakota University.

She later moved to the Tennessee Technical College where she served as an associate professor. The scholarship covers the cost of in-state tuition, student housing, a full meal plan and textbooks.

On August 22, 2008 ESU released the names of the recipients of the Memorial Scholarship. Six winners were announced: Jennifer Groves, graduate student in library sciences, Courtney Knaup, senior physics major, Emily Moore, freshman elementary education major, Ryan Norton, senior business education major, Kevin Schoon, junior biology major and Justin Wieser, junior management major.
