Black Women's Network to host fifth annual Fashion Show on Friday
While Emporia State may be far from Hollywood members of Black Women’s Network will be giving the campus a taste of the life at their annual fashion show.
“This is an annual event,” said Anecia Reed, junior nursing major and president of BWN. “This will be our fifth year having this show. It is just a way to out to the community and campus about fashion. Some years we have the show for a cause and this year it’s all about fashion.”
The Fashion Show will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday in the Memorial Union Ballroom and is BWN’s largest spring event.
“BWN works hard to make the show bigger and better every year,” said Shabre Maples, sophomore biology major and BWN member. “It takes a lot of work to prepare. We hold practices for the models as well as doing advertising through flyers and tables in the union.”
The show will run as a standard fashion show and will feature 13 student models. Throughout the evening there will be a number of performances including a special guest performance as well as a performance by E-Unit, ESU’s hip-hop dance team.
After the show, E-Unit will host an after party for all interested students. The party was set up in hopes of creating a fun, safe environment for students after the show as well as a way for E-Unit to raise funds for their team.
“E-Unit is going to stay with the fashion theme of Friday night and have the party be a Jordon and Stiletto party, which are very stylish shoes,” Maples said. “It is not required to wear them but it will be cheaper to get in if you do.”
The E-Unit after party will begin at 10 p.m. in the Memorial Union Ballroom. The party will last until 2 a.m. and feature an E-Unit performance at midnight. Although all students will be required to pay an entrance fee, there are many ways to lesson the price of attending.
“It will cost $5 for each student to enter the party,” said Dorthia Martin, senior social science and dance major. “If you wear heels or Jordons it will cost $3 to attend the party. Any student that brings in a flyer will have one dollar taken off the price of their ticket.”
BWN and E-Unit are hoping to make this year’s fashion show and after party the largest to date and encourage all students to come.
“We are really encouraging anyone to come,” Reed said. “This event is for anyone and everyone, the young to the old.”
