Track picks up four provisionals
The ESU track team received four provisional’s at the Sooner’s invitational this last weekend. Having used this meet to prepare for the MIAA next weekend, the team reached head coach David Harris’s goal of improving marks prior to the MIAA.
Freshman Kenton Longberger picked up a provisional mark in the 100m dash by placing second with a time of 10.51. Lonberger also got a provisional mark in the 200m placing third with a time of 21.37. Senior Jonel Rossbach received a provisional qualifying mark when she took second place to the Czech junior national champion Eva Slavikova in the 1500m with a time of 4:32.14. Freshman Joshua Honeycutt also reached a provisional by jumping 14.93m in the triple jump.
“I hope that at the next meets before Nationals we can get a lot more people to provisional or automatic for Nationals and get some best personal marks,” said sophomore Jennifer Robinson.
The women placed fourth in the 4x400 meter relay with 4:09.66. Robinson placed fifth place in the high jump jumping 1.60m (5-03 feet). Freshman Shonta Spencer placed sixth in the women 400m hurdles with a time of 1:05.61. Freshman Tiffany Baum placed ninth in the 800m run 2:20.72.
On the men’s side, the Hornets placed sixth place in the 4x400 meter relay with a time of 3:24.51. Senior Eric Wellman placed second in the men’s 1500m run being clocked at 4:00.04. Freshman Josh Schuler placed fourth in the mens100 meter dash with a time of 10.78. Schuler also placed ninth in the 200m dash with a time of 22.00.
Senior Damon Birk placed third in the men’s shot put throwing it a distance of 15.60 meters. Birk also made fourth place in the Men’s discus throw with a distance of 43.68 meters and fifth place in the hammer throw with a distance of 50.17m.
