a new tattoo shop?

Yes!  That's what it is!  A new tattoo shop here in town that is O.P.E.N!!!

To all of you ink lovers  I definitely recommend coming in and taking a look.  We got free pool and bucks of tattoo flash to look through.  John can pretty much do anything you are looking for in a tattoo!  And prices are pretty friggin awesome.

Hope to see you soon...

Cheers!

Re: a new tattoo shop?

tattoo shops in the Crescent City. Now 21 are listed in the Yellow Pages and dozens more unlisted shops are popping up in back rooms and low-income neighborhoods around the city.

Co-owner Aaron Somerville said Art Angels has succeeded in a flooded market by running a clean shop with talented artists.

I think competition is good. If people don't like what they see down the street, they can come to us, Somerville said. People want to go to an area where they can browse around, just like places with a lot of restaurants or clothing stores.

Two blocks down the street from Art Angels Visual Assault is the 5-year-old Eye Candy Tattoos. Co-owner Jeremy Justice said Art Angels is the third tattoo shop to open within a few blocks of him in the past three years and Eye Candy has survived them all.

A lot of the new tattoo shops opening up aren't people from New Orleans, Justice said. They come here thinking it's the big city and they're going to make $1 million and then they realize New Orleans is really a small town.

Eye Candy, which charges $80 an hour, is unique because it only takes appointments and does not depend on volume of business created by the $25 tattoos so popular at many of the new shops, Justice said.

Re: a new tattoo shop?

Other than the use of universal precautions and laws requiring minors to have parental permission, few regulations cover tattooing.

Licensing usually involves completing a health department course on infectious disease transmission and passing an exam, but no governing body inspects tattoo businesses. Laws allow anyone to buy a machine, get a license and start tattooing whether or not they have any artistic ability -- a situation that professional tattoo artists object to -- so it's a good idea to do your homework before rolling up your sleeve.

Here are some basic steps for choosing a safe tattoo parlor:
Look around to see if the studio is clean and professional.
Ask questions: Is there an autoclave? Are the needles and other materials single-use? Are EPA-approved disinfectants used? Do the tattoo artists wear gloves? Professional artists won't mind the questions.
Watch the artist and pay attention to health and safety precautions.
Watch the artist open all needles before beginning work.
Ask about the staff's professional memberships. These are not required, but artists who participate may have the most current information about trends, innovations and safety issues.
