Emporia State Lady Hornets traveled to Municipal Auditorium in Kansas City, MO for the MIAA conference tournament on March 6.
The Hornets came into the game at the No. 9 seed, and would face off against the No.8 seeded Northeastern Riverhawks.
This would be the third meeting between the Riverhawks and the Hornets this season. In the first meeting of the season, the Hornets would take a commanding victory over the RiverHawks with a final score of 63-57 at a home match on Dec. 9.
The Hornets will fall short in the second matchup falling to the RiverHawks with a final score of 61-81 on Feb 1, in Tahlequah, OK.
During the first quarter of the first round, the Hornets would start with a 13-0 lead, and would end the first quarter with a 19-14 lead over Northeastern.
ESU stayed hot in the second quarter scoring a total of 20 points while holding the Riverhawks to 15. ESU completed 16 points in the paint against Northeastern’s eight points.
Going into the half, ESU had a 10 point lead, with Katie Horyna leading the Hornets with 17 points, Faith Paramore following with 10, and Tylieea Wallace with six.
The Hornets would go on to extend their lead in the third quarter once again outscoring Riverhawks 17-9. Throughout the third quarter the Hornets would shoot 46.2% from FG along with 71.4% from 3PT. Final score from Kansas City would favor the Lady Hornets 72-58.
Lady Hornets will return to action March 7 to face off against the No. 1 seeded Missouri Western who holds a 19-3 conference record. In the last meeting against MWSU, the Hornets fell 51-61.
