The Lady Hornet softball team started off the weekend with a double-header against No. 5 MIAA-ranked Missouri Southern on April 12.
The first game of the day was close with the Hornets taking a two point lead going into the top of the fifth 3-1. MSSU went on to score one in the fifth but couldn’t catch up to the Hornets, ending the game with a 3-2 Hornet victory.
ESU went on to beat Missouri Southern again in the second game of the day, holding the Lions scoreless in a five inning game and winning 8-0.
The next day, ESU went up against No. 2-ranked Pittsburg State in another double-header. The Gorillas had a 6-1 lead at the bottom of the third until the Hornets scored two points of their own in the bottom of the fourth. PSU would end up scoring six in the sixth inning, therefore taking the win in the first game 13-3.
In the final game of the weekend, both the Hornets and Gorillas were fairly even at a 4-3 PSU lead in the third. However, in the top of the fourth, PSU rounded the bases, taking seven points in the fourth. ESU was unable to return any points, losing the final game of the double-header 11-3 in a five inning match.
The Lady Hornets are now in the final stretch of the season with four games of the regular season left. First, ESU will head to Kansas City, Kan. for a double-header game against Rockhurst on April 23. ESU will finish the regular season with another double-header against Washburn on April 27 at Trusler Sports Complex.
