Recreation Services Director Mike Wise announced Thursday that the Student Recreation Center will reopen Feb. 26.
The announcement comes after a car crashed into the SRC Sunday evening around 6 p.m., causing significant damage to the building’s weight room and its equipment.
“We have consulted with structural engineers who have examined the rec center and determined that the remaining portions of the building can be used while the weight room is repaired,” Wise said.
Clean up for the rec will continue into next week in order to clean up debris from the crash and rearrange equipment so students can use as many services and programs as possible while repairs are made.
“Obviously, we will not be able to offer every service immediately,” Wise said in the announcement. “We will, however, be able to offer all our cardio equipment and some of our strength-training equipment as well as use the gym, fitness studio and restrooms.”
Wise said the weight room would be unavailable for the time being. It is unknown when it will be available again.
