David Spafford, Director of Athletics announced on Feb. 16 that Jane Grimley-Gunn will be the new head coach of Emporia State’s women’s soccer team.
News of the search for a new head coach for the women’s soccer team was posted last December via an announcement released by Spafford and ESU Athletics. The announcement stated that former women’s soccer head coach Bryan Sailer would not return as the team’s head coach.
Before entering as head coach at ESU, Grimley-Gunn had spent the past two seasons as head soccer coach at Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, MO.
During her time as head coach, Grimley-Gunn led the team to an overall record of 9-16-7 during her two seasons. During the 2022 season, The Miners finished with a record of 3-8-4, just two ranks below making the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.
During the 2023 season, The Miners finished with a 6-8-3 record, claiming the No. 8 spot in the GLVC tournament and later losing to No.1 seeded Maryville 0-1.
Prior to coaching for Missouri S&T, Grimley-Gunn attended and played soccer from 2013-2016 at Goldey-Beacom College in Wilmington, Del. After completing four years at GBC, Grimley-Gunn tallied 10 goals, 34 shots on goal, six assists and appeared in 64 games for the Lightning.
“I can’t wait to get started with the team at Emporia State,” Grimley-Gunn said. “This program has an established expectation for success and there was a clear sense of competitiveness from the moment that I stepped on campus.”
