States called for Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump by the Associated Press as of Nov. 11, 2024. Former President Donald Trump has won the 2024 election.
Former president Donald Trump won the 2024 Presidential Election against Vice President Kamala Harris early Wednesday morning with 277 electoral votes after the Associated Press called the state of Wisconsin and the race. Wisconsin also helped the presidential nominee secure the presidency in 2016.
The president-elect’s final electoral vote total sits at 312.
Trump, who was beat by President Joe Biden in 2020, also took Pennsylvania’s 19 electoral votes by two percent after the state flipped red following a Harris lead earlier in the night. Afterwards, his lead began to grow a similar trend in the “blue wall” states of Michigan and Wisconsin, dismantling the “blue wall” in a similar fashion to the events that lead Trump to victory in 2016.
Early on election night, Trump started off strong with an early lead in Georgia and pulled ahead in North Carolina, eventually leading him to claim the two states. He also maintained his strongholds in Texas and Florida as well as in rural counties, which made up much of his voter base in 2016 and 2020.
Trump gained a large percentage of non-college educated white voters as well as a large gender gap of men favoring Trump compared to women favoring Harris. He also secured a larger margin of the vote from Black and Latino voters than he did in 2020.
He is also on track to win the popular vote, which will be the first time a Republican president has won the popular vote in two decades. Trump is the first felon to be elected to the presidency and the oldest at 78 years old.
Prior to Trump taking the race and gaining Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, Harris, whose most straightforward path to 270 electoral votes was through Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, did not speak to the crowd of supporters at Howard University Tuesday night. Instead, Harris’ campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond said the Vice President would speak to her supporters on Wednesday.
Harris received 226 electoral votes in the final electoral count.
Before AP called the race, Trump declared victory early Wednesday morning at his campaign’s election night watch party in West Palm Beach, Fla. He called his campaign “the greatest political movement of all time,” saying his reelection will “usher in the Golden Age of America” and that he would “help our country heal.” He also thanked his supporters and said he would “fight for your family and your future.”
“We’re gonna pay you back. Together we can truly make America great again for all Americans,” he said.
Here is the breakdown of results from all 7 major swing states as called by the Associated Press. The race in most swing states was close, with just a two or three point difference between Trump and Harris, however it was just enough to secure Trump the victory this election cycle.
