The Black Student Union opened the doors of the Memorial Union’s Skyline Room for their Halloween Party at 7 p.m. on Halloween night.
Members of BSU set up an open space near the front end of the Skyline for dancing, pumping pop and funk music through the speakers and filling the room with balloons and multicolored strobe lights. The sides and back of the room were lined with tables where attendees were encouraged to drink lemonade and eat cookies from the snack bar. Attendees could also host games using cards placed on each table.
Senior Clarice Nichols, BSU co-president, commented on the attendance at the party.
“I think if we would’ve had our people there at the beginning, we could’ve got more of the people from campus to stay,” said Nichols. “I think I expected maybe just a little bit more, but by ‘little bit more,’ I mean just the people on our board. I really had fun, decorations went well, we had the treats. I think we did all we could do, basically.”
BSU’s other co-president, Coby Smith, considered the event a success in the level of fun that was had by the attendees.
“We had some people stop by, come and go, and some stayed,” said Smith. “I was overthinking that it wasn’t going well, but after I got out of my head and had fun with what we set up, it turned out to be a good time…We truly offered what we could do for students, and after enjoying it, it was a nice night in the overall look of it.”
BSU members weren’t the only people in attendance enjoying themselves.
“The party has lots of high vibes, good energy, great music, and looks appealing,” said senior Madisen Cochran, a physical and health education major.
Sophomore art education major Chaney Carr expressed similar sentiments.
“We just came in, had a good time, they said that there’s cookies and drinks, so yeah. Just having a fun time,” Carr said.
