The Emporia State Lady Hornets fell short on Jan. 21 with a 43-76 loss against the Missouri Southern Lions
The game began with forward Faith Paramore scoring free throws and guard Gracie Gilpin shooting a three pointer, giving the Hornets five points. Missouri Southern hit back with a 20-8 scoring run that went on until the final two minutes of the quarter, leaving the score at 20-13. The quarter closed with Emporia gaining a 6-2 scoring run made possible by Faith Paramore’s back to back three pointers. The second quarter brought a struggle to the Hornets as they couldn’t keep up offensively against the Lions. As the Hornets shot 2-14, the Lions scored 15-5, leaving the score at 37-24 as halftime began.
Coming out of halftime, the struggle continued as the Hornets shot just 5-14 and 1-6 from the three-point line. This created an advantage for Missouri Southern as they managed to score 22-13 in the third quarter, which grew their lead to 59-37. The fourth quarter brought much of the same as Missouri Southern outscored ESU once again 17-6, eventually leading the Hornets to lose 43-76.
