Emporia State Lady Hornets’ season ends after a loss against Central Oklahoma Wednesday night in the first round of the MIAA tournament. ESU earned the 7 seed while COU was ranked 10th. The team wrapped up their season with a 57-71 loss.
Sophomore guard, Ehlania Hartman scored ESU’s first two points with only seven minutes left in the first quarter after the team trailed by six.
By the end of the first quarter, the Lady Hornets were down by four with a 13-17 score. The second quarter the women caught up and had the lead for a cumulative two minutes and thirty five seconds. However, the team would lose the lead before the end of the quarter and would never catch back up.
The third quarter started with a 30-37 with Hornets trailing by seven. By the fourth quarter the women were losing 38-56 and finally the team would lose by 14 points, ending their season.
Sophomore wing, Faith Paramore and senior guard Victoria Price had the most points of the night with 10 each. ESU had 19 turnovers. Redshirt junior guard, Tre’Zure Jobe was injured in the team’s prior game against Washburn University.
Jobe was just recognized for her first team all-MIAA selection for the third time.
ESU men’s basketball team will play against Lincoln on Friday at noon in Kansas City’s Municipal Auditorium for the quarterfinals.
