ESU Special Collections and Archives hosted “The Civil War in Kansas” on Nov. 8 in William Allen White Library. The talk, which was open to the Emporia community, was led by Will Haynes and made possible by Humanities Kansas.
The event discussed Kansas during the Civil War and how it influenced the perception of the state in the years that followed.
“The Civil War in Kansas” and other events supported by Humanities Kansas are history or spiritually-based presentations to reach Kansans on events that have happened in the state.
Haynes has been doing these talks “for about a year and a half” and this talk marks his 17th presentation on the topic. He intends to further explore topics such as prohibition in Kansas.
“It is an opportunity to get speakers out all over Kansas to introduce people to interesting topics,” Haynes said. “Basically, to help people enjoy the humanities.”.
