In light of substantially reduced enrollment numbers at Emporia State, the dorm population has taken a hit.
“The last couple of years we’ve taken some spaces offline,” said Kayla Smith, Director of Residential Life at ESU. Taking those spaces offline allows us to focus on different things: this year, all the floors of Schallenkamp and all of the floors of Abigail are being used.”
Currently, Singular and Trusler are not being used. Additionally, the first floor of North Towers and the first and third floor of South Towers are not occupied by ESU students. However, the first and third floors of South Tower have been used to house short-term Danish international students who are visiting ESU.
Residential life is hoping to use the time where these spaces are not occupied for touch ups and work on the area.
“Hopefully we can be strategic around this time in the year and we can have Singular and Trusler ready to go by the time of summer camps,” Smith said.
