The Emporia State women’s soccer team faced off against the Fort Hays Tigers in the MIAA opener on Sept. 24 at Emporia High School.
After the first half, the Hornets were down 0-2. In the second half of play, midfielder Hannah Woolery scored a goal for the Hornets with an assist from midfielder Angela Palmer. However, the final score from the game favored the Tigers 1-3.
Woolery led the game with one goal and two shots, along with one shot on goal. As a team, the Hornets put together 10 shots compared to 12 shots for the Tigers. The Hornets are now 5-1-2 on the season and will face Northeastern State on Sept. 29 in Emporia.
The Northeastern State Riverhawks are 2-2-4 on the season so far and ranked seventh in the overall MIAA standings. The RiverHawks have two wins under their belt in conference play with wins against Central Oklahoma and Newman University.
After starting the season playing at Emporia High School due to unplayable ESU pitch conditions, the Hornets expect to return to their home pitch for their match against the RiverHawks. Kickoff against the RiverHawks is set for 3:00 p.m.
