Emporia State women’s soccer head coach Bryan Sailer will not return as the team’s head coach, according to an announcement released Friday by ESU Athletics and Vice President and Director of Athletics David Spafford.
An earlier statement released by ESU Athletics on Nov. 28 indicated that Sailer was placed on paid administrative leave ahead of the NCAA Division II Central Region Championship where he would “not be joining the team on the trip.” The release said that multiple players on the ESU soccer team would also be sanctioned in the form of limited playing time due to student-athlete policy and code of conduct violations that were not specified.
During the 2022 season, Sailer missed the final four regular season games due to receiving five yellow cards.
According to the statement released Dec. 8, Chloe Marquez will continue as the team’s interim head coach while a national search commences to find a new permanent head coach.
“As we continue to evolve ESU Athletics into a Top 25 program in the country, we are committed to performing at the highest caliber in every aspect of our program,” the release said.
The circumstances surrounding Sailer’s removal from the team are currently unknown.
