The Emporia State track teams competed in the Drake Relays on April 24, 25 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Kyle Pfizenmeier, senior, was the highlight of the weekend for ESU with a javelin throw of 61.63-meters. It wasn’t his best throw of the season, but it was good enough to place 10th at the meet and be a provisional qualifier for nationals.
The women’s 4×100-meter relay team placed 10th with a time of 47.59 seconds. The team consisted of Morgan Flowers, sophomore; Carmen King, senior; Latiyera Yeargin, freshman and Peyton Weiss, senior. Andrew Etheridge, senior placed 16th in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 14.68 seconds. The men’s 4×400-meter team placed 27th with a time of 3:19. The team was Ryan Dickson, senior; Collin Coleman, freshman; Cody Miller, senior and Jordan Smith, senior.
Weiss finished 16th in the long jump with a 5.67 meter jump. Sara Dunkin Beam, senior, placed 13th in the women’s javelin throw with a 40.34-meter throw. Samuel Saidi, senior, was the only Hornet to compete on Sunday in high jump. He placed 13th with a jump of 2.08-meter.
The ESU track teams will compete in the MIAA outdoor championships. The meet will be held May 1-3 in St. Charles, Missouri at Lindenwood University.
