The Emporia State women’s volleyball team opened up their season at Washburn University at the Washburn Invitational Volleyball tournament. They defeated Black Hills State in straight sets 25-14, 25-23 and 25-14. It is the first time ever that the two schools have met.
Bing Xu, ESU head coach, opened up the season with a victory for the ninth straight season and has won 10 of 11. His overall record is 226-98. The Lady Hornets finished last season 16-12.
Last season Black Hills finished the season 10-18 and 7-11 in conference play.
The next game for ESU will be at 4 p.m. on Sept. 5 against Drury State in Topeka at Lee Arena. The Hornets have faced Drury 14 times. They are 11-3 all time. Their last meeting came in 2007, where the Lady Hornets won in three sets.
