The Emporia State volleyball team finished play at the Washburn Invitational with a five
set win against South Dakota school of Mines and Technology. The Lady Hornets had to come
back after winning the first set, they would lose sets two and three. They cruised in set four to
force a match winning set five.
Despite winning in five sets, the Lady Hornets were outscored 79-71 and out-killed 62-
59. ESU had four more blocks with 15 to Mines and Tech’s 11.
Emma Benton led the Lady Hornets in kills with 15 and in assists with two. Shayla Cotman
led the way in blocks with five. Kimberly Bell had a tournament high 27 assists and Kelly
Holden led the team in digs with 17.
Emporia State will take part in the Lindenwood invitational next weekend in St. Charles, Missouri.
