The #8 Emporia State baseball team opened a three-game home series last Friday afternoon with a 4-1 victory against Nebraska-Kearney.
Daniel LaMunyon, senior infielder, singled, went to second on a ground out, then stole home and scored off a Loper error to put Emporia State on the board in the second.
Kaden Shaffer, junior infielder, followed with a triple and scored on double by senior outfielder Wade Hanna to put the Hornets up 2-0. Emporia State plated two more in the fourth to round out their scoring. Kearney scored their only run in the seventh as the Hornet pitching staff was able to scatter 10 Loper hits.
In game two, the Hornets opened with three runs in the first. Emporia State then added three more in the bottom of the fifth on a RBI-double by Brown, a RBI-triple from Ryan McBroom, senior infielder, and a RBI single from Munyon.
The final run came in the seventh when Mason Brown, junior catcher, walked, made it to third on a single, then scored on McBroom’s ground out. The Lopers were shut out 7-0, managing only three hits in the contest.
The Hornets earned their fourth walk-off win of the season on Sunday afternoon.Hanna led Emporia State to a 9-8 win when he singled to left field in the bottom of the ninth to send in the winning run.
With his four hits in game three, Hanna moved to third on the Emporia State baseball team all-time list with 204 career hits.
The Hornets (23-5, 12-2 in the MIAA) will travel to the University of Central Oklahoma for a three-game series that begins this Friday at 6 p.m. in Edmond, Oklahoma.
