Jared Reinke, freshman middle distance runner, won the 800m in 1:55.39 while Thomas LaRoche, junior distance runner, ran 1:55.49 to place second and start Emporia State’s distance portion of the night strong at the K.T. Woodman Invitational on Friday in Wichita, Kan.

The Hornets also received points from Gabe Sams, sophomore distance runner, and Aaron Taylor, sophomore distance runner, on Friday. Sams ran 32:57.41 to place sixth while Taylor ran a 32:58.01 to come in seventh in the 10,000m run.

Emily Schoenfeld, senior distance runner, ran 18:12.90 to place sixth in the 5000m run and lead the Emporia State women in scoring. Elizabeth Costello, junior thrower, threw the javelin 126-09 to place seventh.

On Saturday, Jazmine Williams, freshman jumper, had a provisional qualifier and placed second for the women while Alec Garcia, junior thrower, had another provisional qualifier for the men. The Hornets had ten top-eight finishers on Saturday.

Williams finished second in the women’s long jump with a leap of 19-03.50. Garcia had a provisional qualifier of 53-11.00 in the shot put to place fifth. He was also fifth with a mark of 159-02 in the discus.

Sarah Hines, sophomore hurdler, Lindsay Poague, junior hurdler, Sophie Hayes, multi event specialist, and Anna Mahoney, freshman hurdler, ran 1:04.45 and placed second in the shuttle hurdle relay.

Allison Meeth, senior pole vaulter, cleared 11-00.75 to place sixth in the women’s pole vault as Kelsey Graber, sophomore pole vaulter, ran 57.24 in the 400m to place seventh and round out the Hornet women’s scoring.

Pete Mascal, freshman jumper, placed seventh in the men’s triple jump with a leap of 43-03.25. The Hornets had two more eight place finishers in the men’s throwing events. Jeramie Fischer, junior thrower, had a career best 51-05.50 in the shot put while Cameron Defebaugh, sophomore thrower, threw the hammer 149-03.

The next action for Hornet track and field will come at the Kansas Relays. The events begin this afternoon in Lawrence, Kan. and will continue through Friday.
