It’s funny how conservatives care about protecting women, except for when women speak out and have opposing views.
The most recent example is with Tomi Lahren. She is a young conservative female who was recently banned from appearing on Glenn Beck’s “TheBlaze.” She was a guest on “The View” and spoke about her views on abortion.
Lahren called conservatives hypocrites for hating small government, yet wanting to control what women do with their bodies. I am not a fan of Lahren, but I agree with her reasoning.
A large part of the Conservative party platform rests on the idea of limited government. We leave it up to the people to decide whether or not they want to own a gun. The same should be done for women and their bodily autonomy.
The comment made by Lahren received enough backlash from conservatives to get her suspended and later fired from her job as a host for “TheBlaze.” As a woman, this scenario is honestly horrifying.
It makes me scared to speak out about my opinions in fear of being fired from a job.
This very public move could hurt more women than Lahren. It sends a message to other employers that it is acceptable to fire women if they voice their beliefs.
The First Amendment of the US Constitution states that we have the right to freedom of speech and freedom of expression. While businesses have the right to choose who they hire or fire, it limits what we can do or say.
Jobs are hard to come by, and we shouldn’t have to feel scared of losing our jobs for stating our views. Whatever you believe, you should be able to speak out about things you believe in.
As college students, we are the future of this country.
We are future bosses and employees, and it’s up to us to be more understanding.
The political climate has become polarized, even within parties. We will not succeed as a nation if all we do is hate those who we don’t agree with.
