Emporia State baseball hosted a three-game series against #35 Missouri S&T this past weekend at Trusler Sports Complex.
The Hornets opened the series by scoring 22 runs off 24 hits and took advantage of six Miner errors to take a 22-8 victory.
ESU fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first but quickly regained the lead by plating two runs in the bottom of the inning. The Miners would gain control in the second inning by batting in seven runs to take an 8-2 lead.
The Hornets added two unearned runs in the bottom of the second and came within one thanks to a three-run homer by Taylor Sanagorski, junior catcher, in the bottom of the third. ESU would score at least two-runs in each inning of the game, marking the third time they have scored at least 20 runs in a game this season.
The Hornets had to come from behind for the win on Saturday, a 9-8 walk-off victory at Glennen Field. ESU fell behind early and trailed 2-0 at the end of the first. The Hornets got on the board in the bottom of the second and tied the game in the third. The Miners scored five in the fifth to go up 7-2.
ESU slowly crawled back in the game and capped their scoring in the ninth with three runs to take the victory on a walkoff bloop single by senior infielder Alex White.
The Hornets scored in the ninth to force extra innings, but could not complete the comeback and lost 7-6 in 11 innings in their third and final game of the series.
ESU will open MIAA play this weekend as they host Pittsburg State in a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for Friday at 2:00 p.m.
