The ESU women’s basketball team started the season on the road, taking on Southwestern Oklahoma State University and Oklahoma Baptist University on Nov. 10 and 11. The women came away from the weekend with a win and a loss.
Friday’s game against SWOSU was the first time since 2011 that the Lady Hornets lost a season opener. ESU was outscored 76-88, and they were outrebounded for the second time in two years.
Junior forward Emily Miller led the Hornets with a career high 25 points, and she was followed by teammates senior guard Jacee Kramer with 16 and junior forward Tyra Jones with 12.
The Lady Hornets won their first game of the season against Oklahoma Baptist in an offensive battle.
The Hornets were outscored in the first quarter 15-17, but they rallied in the remaining three quarters to end the game with a final score of 86-64.
Miller was the leading scorer for the second game in a row, followed by Kramer. Both had 17 points.
Junior forward Tiana Moala led the Hornets in rebounds with seven, and Jones and freshman forward Madison Ralston both contributed with six each.
The Lady Hornets will play at Newman University Nov. 20. Tip-off will begin at 7 p.m.
