The Emporia State Honors College is hosting Halloween Haunt, a dance and costume party from 7-11 p.m Monday, Oct. 30th in the Memorial Union Ballroom. There will be games, piñatas and a costume competition.
“Costumes are not required, but I think, since it’s a Halloween dance, it’s more fun to have costumes,” said Katie Dold, Honors Council social chair and junior English major.
The event has an overall budget of $250, which goes towards food, supplies and general planning costs, according to Dold. The money comes from the Honors College.
This year, Dold decided to have the group create six paper mache moons out of cardboard and newspaper.
Members of the planning committee and other Honors College members helped make the piñatas out of donated cardboard that Dold had traced, which were then covered with white tissue paper. The piñatas will be filled with candy for the party.
“It should be spooky,” said Abigail Wells, a member of the planning committee and freshman English major.
Percy Spangler, member of the planning committee and junior psychology, also wrote a murder mystery logic puzzle for the party.
“I might be going with a Clue theme, ” Spangler said.
Attendees who complete the logic puzzle will either receive a prize or be entered into a drawing for a prize, according to Spangler.
Admission is open to all students at ESU and there will be an entrance fee of either $1 or a canned good. The canned goods will be donated to Corky’s Cupboard and the cash collected will go towards offsetting the cost of the event, according to Brenda Wiggins, administrative assistant of the Honors College.
