In a conference play rematch game, the Emporia State women’s soccer team fell 0-2 to Fort Hays State University last Sunday at the Tigers’ home field. Both Fort Hays goals were scored in the second half.
“I think that we played really well,” said Tanna Benefiel, sophomore midfielder. “We connected and possessed the ball well, however, we didn’t finish a couple opportunities. On the other hand, Fort Hays capitalized on the opportunities that were given to them.”
The first of the two goals was scored by FHSU’s Kylie Thomas and assisted by Darby Hirsh with a close header into the goal.
The second goal was taken by Eden Stoddard and assisted by Kylie Thomas.
ESU took three shots in the first quarter and four in the second, while Fort Hays took 10 shots in the first half and eight in the second. The Hornets made three total saves and the Tigers made five.
ESU’s record is now 4-3-1 in conference play.
The Hornet’s will host Northeastern State for the first time this year at 4 p.m. Friday Sept. 29 at the ESU Pitch.
