The Emporia State track and field teams took second place overall, combining for nine event championships last Friday at the UCM Invitational.
Taysean Goodwin, sophomore, was a triple winner for the Hornets in the 200m, 400m, and 4X400m relay. He was joined on the relay team by Boone Cady, junior, Kyle Evans, sophomore, and Parker Evans, sophomore, as they turned in a time of 3:22.70 to win the event.
He ran a provisional qualifying time of 22:10 in the 200m.
Alec Garcia, junior, joined Goodwin on the provisional list with a mark of 53-02.25 to finish second in the men’s shot put.
Thomas LaRoche, junior, ran the fifth fastest time in Emporia State history in the 600-yard run with a time of 1:11.85.
Cole Bosley, sophomore, dominated the men’s 800m finishing with a time of 1:57.79 to take the victory. Bosley then teamed with Jared Reinke, freshman, Luke Stenzel, freshman, and Caleb Nelson, freshman, to capture the men’s distance medley relay, finishing with a time of 11:17.29.
The Hornet’s final win on the men’s side came from Peter Mascal, freshman, who took the victory in the long jump with a leap of 22-07.25.
The Emporia State women had two champions and eight runners-up on the day. Emily Schoenfeld, senior, won the 3000m in a time of 10:32.05 while Jasmine Williams, freshman, took the long jump with a mark of 18-03.00. Kelsey Graber, sophomore, finished second in the 400m with a time of 59.72 and Elizabeth Blevins, senior, ran 1:28.79 to place second in the 600-yard run.
The Hornet track and field teams will travel to Lawrence, Kansas for the Jayhawk Invitational this Friday.
