Emporia State Women’s basketball fell 74-66 to Newman on Nov. 20. The loss dropped the Hornets to 2-2 in the season.
The first quarter was tied at the end 16-16 and saw the Hornets take a six point lead 32-26 into halftime. Newman had a strong third quarter and took the lead 48-46.
Newman would have control of the game through the fourth quarter while hitting two late three that would seal the win.
The Hornets were led with a double double by Tyra Jones, junior forward, with 18 points and 12 rebounds. Marissa Preston, graduate guard, Jacee Kramer, senior guard, and Kali Martin, freshman guard, each had nine points for the Hornets.
Jessica Wayne, sophomore guard, was second in rebounds with six.
The Hornets shot 12-25 from the free throw line and the Jets shot 23-33. The Hornets had 18 turnovers while the Jets had 16 of their own.
Next up, ESU will take on University of Nebraska Kearney at 5:30 p.m. on Dec. 7 in White Auditorium.
