Emporia State President Allison Garrett will be holding several small group discussions in the hopes of finding new ways to move the campus forward.
“We have been, as a university, working really hard on diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives for the last two and a half years,” said Garrett. “We added Goal Five to the universities strategic plan. We’ve accomplished a lot under Goal Five, but it’s clear that in today’s environment, there’s still so much more to accomplish.”
Before the start of the semester, Garrett sent out an email to students, staff, and faculty stating that she would be conducting small group discussions starting Monday, Jan. 28.
“Last semester, I committed to you that we would move forward and work together to develop the kind of climate we desire for Emporia State,” Garrett said in the email. “I invite you to visit with me in small groups … I want to hear your ideas of ways to move our campus forward.”
Students can sign up to meet with Garrett through the bookings tile on Hornet365. Any further questions can be directed to Sarah McKernan, the president’s executive assistant.
“The best way to get in touch with (Garrett)…if you have questions, (is to) email me,” McKernan said.
Currently, there are sign up times from Monday, Jan. 28 through Thursday, Jan. 31. Additional dates may be added later in the semester if the current ones aren’t sufficient, according to McKernan.
“My hope in visiting with our students, faculty and staff over these next few weeks is to be able to hear from them about what their views are with respect to the next steps by the university,” Garrett said. “How do we continue to make good progress and move forward on these important issues?”
