
Emporia State’s faculty and staff gathered into Webb Hall Jan. 14 to hear President Allison Garrett talk about the upcoming semester as well as some of the things accomplished in the previous semester.
“Incoming Freshman were up by seven percent; our incoming graduate student starts were up by 36 percent,” Garrett said about the previous semester
With a new semester comes new changes to many programs including the nursing program here at ESU.
“Our second cohort of nursing students begins tomorrow and this is part of our doubling of the program size for our Department of Nursing,” Garrett said “Coming out of the school of nursing is the likely approval on Wednesday by the Board of Regents of our Masters in nursing.”
Garrett also spoke about the Teachers College for their surpassing their expectation on the Masters of Science in elementary Education and the Hyper building for becoming an exercise is medicine on campus registered school by the American College of Sports Medicine.
In the Liberal Arts and Sciences, Garrett congratulated the Debate team on receiving one of only 14 invitation to the Rutgers Newark Robin in New Jersey. She also spoke about the new Physical Science Camp that will be added this summer according to Kim Simons and Garrett
Garrett spoke about the community of Emporia everything it does for the students and what they do for it. “Last year Emporia State Students spent more than 12,000 volunteer hours in and around Emporia, doing projects for all kind of organizations around Emporia.”
ESU has received multiple accreditations recently including, Council for the Accreditation of the Educator Preparation, The National Association of Schools of Art and Design, The Accreditation Council for Art Therapy Education, Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business, and The College Reading and Learning Association approved ACEs tutor development program, according to David Cordle, Provost/vice president for academic affairs.
