The Lady Hornets proved victorious against Lincoln University in a double header last saturday in Jefferson City, Missouri. The women won the first game 10-2 and the second 12-1.
The first game got off to a slow offensive start for both teams, as neither scored in the first inning. However, both teams turned that around and the Hornets scored two runs in the second inning while the Lions scored one.
The Hornets continued to score and widened their lead in the third inning, scoring three more runs to the Lions’ one run. They scored four in the fourth inning and one final run in the fifth to end the game, 10-2.
The second of the two games started off strong for the Hornets as they scored six runs in the top of the first inning. Lincoln responded with one run.
The Hornets’ momentum continued in the second inning as they made two more runs, raising the score to 8-1.
The third inning was dry for both teams with no score. The fourth inning proved to be positive for the Lady Hornets as they scored the final four runs of the game, ending the game, 12-1 Hornets.
“Our games against Lincoln were a great bounce back” said Valerie Kinny, utility player. “We just can’t show up a different team in two days. We need to show up the team we know we can be while being consistent.”
The Hornets are back in action with a double header against Washburn University this Friday at the Trusler Sports Complex. The first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
