The Hornet baseball team took a fall to Northwest Missouri State University in a series last weekend, losing all three games.
The first game of the double header was played on Sunday, Feb. 25. It was a close battle between the two schools. The Bearcats took the lead in the bottom of the second inning, 2-0 against the Hornets.
In the fifth inning, the Hornets put themselves on the board with one run. The following inning, they doubled their score, tying it 2-2.
The game continued tied until the 14th inning, where the Bearcats put one run on the board to win the game, 2-3.
Emporia State started off the second game of the day very strong, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning.
The Bearcats were not far behind as they gained run after run in the following innings, finally taking the led by one in the seventh inning. The Hornets, who had lead the game up until this point, were defeated by Northwest Missouri State University 6-7.
The third and final game was played the following day, Feb. 26.
Like the previous day, the Hornets got off to a quick lead, closing on three runs and starting the scoring off in the bottom of the first inning, 3-0.
ESU continued to score two more runs in the second inning. The Bearcats, however, answered with 4 runs, raising the score to 5-4 by the second inning.
The game ended in the 12th inning, where the Bearcats again outscored the Hornets by one, 11-12.
The Hornets will be back in action at 5 p.m. tomorrow at the Trusler Sports Complex against Southwest Baptist.
