Hornet softball went undefeated at home to finish up regular season play last week. The two day series consisted of two double headers, one set against Northwest Missouri State University and the second against Missouri Western State University.
“We always talk to the girls about how the beginning of the season doesn’t matter,” said Eryn Stockman, graduate coaching assistant. “I think they understand that and have been doing very well come game time. We have a lot of great players this year and I am excited for the future.”
The first double header was a success for the Hornets as they rose victorious over Northwest Missouri State University. During the game, ESU outscored the Bearcats by eight runs and won 9-1.
The second game of the double header proved to be much closer. The final score was determined by a single run, with the Hornets hanging for the win, 6-5.
ESU entered the second double header strong and defeated Missouri Western in both games, going 4-0 on the weekend.
The first game proved to be low scoring, with only two runs scored, both by the Hornets. ESU won 2-0.
The Hornets made up for the low score of the previous game during the last of the weekend, putting a total of nine points on the scoreboard. ESU defeated the Griffons, 9-1.
ESU will be back in action today through Saturday as they take the field for their last games of the season. They will be playing in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, taking on a multitude of teams from MIAA Division 2 in conference play.
