The Bulletin will receive the 2018 “Above and Beyond” award for its investigation of “Jane’s Story,” which uncovered how Emporia State handled a student’s sexual misconduct allegation. The Kansas Sunshine Coalition for Open Government is presenting the award to staff Friday.
The Bulletin is being recognized “for its coverage and subsequent fallout of an international student’s struggles to cope with a university investigation of a longtime ESU professor,” according to a news release from the Sunshine Coalition.
This is the first time student newspaper staffs have been chosen to receive the “Above and Beyond” award, according to the release. The other student newspaper receiving the award is Wichita State University’s “Sunflower.”
Max Kautsch, Sunshine Coalition board member and media law attorney, will be presenting The Bulletin with this award 2 p.m. Friday in the Xi Phi room in the Memorial Union.
