ESU baseball went 1-2 against the University of Central Missouri last weekend in Warrensburg, Missouri, during a three game series.  

“The games we played this weekend are why you come to a place like Emporia,” said Robert Mayes, sophomore left handed pitcher. “The atmosphere was amazing and it was two good teams playing good baseball. We competed as a team for all three games and gave ourselves a chance to win every game, although, we only took one on the road.”

Friday’s game was the lowest scoring game of the weekend and the first of the Hornet losses. Central Missouri outscored the Hornets by three runs. Along four of the Mules’ runs came during the first two innings. ESU fell to Central Missouri, 1-4.

The Hornets came back during the second game, closing the score game and winning by a margin of one run. Despite Central Missouri’s best efforts to close the gap, ESU took the game, 5-4.

ESU continued their momentum into the final game, which proved to another close scoring game. Although the Hornets put up a valid fight, they couldn’t keep their momentum going through the entirety of the third game. The Mules took their second victory of the weekend, outscoring the Hornets by one and winning, 5-6.

Baseball will be back in action this tomorrow through Sunday at home. The first pitch of the three game weekend against Northeastern State University will be thrown at 6 p.m. Friday at the Trusler Sports Complex.
