The Hornets ended their season with an overall record of 14-6-1, according to Emporia State Athletics.
They ended their season with a 1-2 loss last Friday against Minnesota State University-Mankato during the NCAA Division II Central Regional tournament.
“This season has exceeded my expectations coming in my freshman year,” said Jillian Patton, freshman goalkeeper. “It is so exciting to be a part of a team that was breaking school records each week and got the opportunity to play in the NCAA tournament. There is so much passion on this team and we fought so hard in every game which was a key part in our success this season.”
The Hornets away record was 3-3-1 during their season. They tied Sept. 14 against Fort Hays State.
“The worst game of the season would have to be the semifinal game (in the MIAA tournament) against UCM,” said Kennedy Hoffman, junior forward. “We lost 7-1. It was one of those games where everything went right for them and nothing went right for us.”
The Hornets played in eight home games over the season with no home loses.
Their last home game was the MIAA tournament game against Northeastern State University. ESU won 2-1.
“The best game of the season was the first time out against UCM at home,” Patton said. “We came out with full intensity and put everything we had into that game. It was super exciting to beat the defending national champions.”
