Emporia State Ambassadors are preparing for multiple events on campus to make sure Homecoming runs smoothly for all Hornets.
“Homecoming is our busiest time of year,” said Sawyer Barragan, ambassador and senior Spanish major. “We are doing a lot of promotion, whether that’s on our own social media or the Ambassadors social media. We are partnering with the university to help promote (events)… We’re just preparing and getting ready for the craziness of it.”
Gaby Amparan, junior English education and health and human performance major, has been an ambassador for three semesters.
“We like to think we run the show just because we’re partnered with the alumni association and the admissions office, which both play an integral role in homecoming,” Amparan said.
“We work a lot of the events, like the Black and Gold Gala. We host distinguished alumni and outstanding recent graduates.” Ambassadors work nearly every Homecoming event, but their numbers are down this year. They’re currently taking applications for new members. “Right now we’re a little bit short handed,” Amparan said.
“Applications are open to anyone of any major of any kind. They’re due next Wednesday, Oct. 26.” Ambassadors work with current, past and future Hornets, according to Amparan.
They run campus tours and help with recruitment. For current students, Ambassadors also help with student programing and promoting spirit in athletics. They run senior week for current students and work alumni events.
The application must include a letter of recommendation from an ESU faculty, staff or Resident Assistant and are due at 5 p.m. Oct. 26. Those with questions about Ambassadors or the application process can reach out to Amparan at [email protected].
“I’m excited (for Homecoming),” said Laura Waller, ambassador and sophomore nursing major. “It’s a lot of fun.”
