The Associated Student Government fiscal affairs committee met for the first time this semester and discussed the importance of their role and how they could better reach out to registered student organizations and line item organizations, last Friday.
Organizations are required to submit their financial paperwork to the fiscal affairs committee by Sept. 21. All organizations are required to submit an Appendix A, which lists their income from student fees, their expenses and any other funding they get.
“Our contribution as a committee is going to be very, very vital, especially to the whole system in the way it comes to the finance and all that, so we are going to be doing a lot of things that is going to change drastically the community at ESU,” said Daniel Agbaji, chair of fiscal affairs committee and graduate library information management and instructional design student.
Organizations that want an increase to their budget must also submit an Appendix B by Sept. 21. Those that want a decrease must submit an Appendix C.
“We have a huge responsibility that is placed on our shoulders,” said Agbaji. “Our responsibility here goes beyond just ASG per se. It has a lot of influence upon decisions that the senate is going to make. We’ve got a lot of work (to do).”
Agbaji emphasized the importance of the role of their committee since they make recommendations to the senate for increases decreases to the organizations budgets. This has a direct affect on student fees.
“Our work here is very valuable,” Agbaji said. “I know that with our collective contribution, we can actually do something that is very important, something very lasting.”
The next fiscal affairs meeting will be at 8 p.m. tonight in the Great Plains Room.
