The Associated Student Government fiscal affairs committee established their deadlines for meeting with line items last Tuesday. If line items do not meet with the committee during these times or fail to submit their paperwork, they could lose their recognition status and their funding.
“(If they do not meet with the committee) there are high possibilities of them not being recognized anymore,” said Daniel Agbaji, graduate library information management and instructional design student. “We need to actually follow up (with them) carefully. We need to know why and then find a way we can help (them)…It means they might actually not be recognize or also lose their funding for next year. It’s a very strict rule.”
All line item financial forms are due to the fiscal affairs committee by Sept. 21. The committee then has until Oct. 5 to review the forms.
“During the collective review, we should have everyone (from the committee) around,” Agbaji said. “Everyone needs to be in attendance in the meetings when we are going to be reviewing (the line items).”
The committee has until Nov. 9 to meet with the line item organizations. Meetings must be held in person, which is a change from the policy last year.
“They’ll come over and make a presentation and we’ll speak with them,” Agbaji said. “We’ll ask them questions and if they have any, they can ask us. We can give them answers.”
There are 12 total line items, according to Malcolm Dade, senator and senior accounting major.
The line items are Associated Student Government, The Bulletin, Center for Early Childhood Education, Educational Opportunity Fund, Athletic Band Stipend, the Performing Arts Board, “Quivira,” Special Events Board, Sports Club, “The Sunflower,” Union Activities Council and Visual Arts Board, according to the Senate Line Item policy.
A few members of the committee met Friday with Diana Kuhlmann, Vice President of administration and finance, to answer any questions they have regarding line items, such as the policy and student fees.
