The Associated Student Government fiscal affairs committee reviewed the financial information for 11 line items during their meeting Monday.
All line items turned their information in on time to ASG, except for “The Sunflower” yearbook, according to Daniel Agbaji, fiscal affairs committee chair and graduate library information management and instructional design student.
The Athletic Band Stipend was one of the line items that asked for an increase.
“Sometimes when you’re looking into the petitions, or whatever proposal they were actually making, it might look very genuine, but we also have to consider the benefit of the entire community,” Agbaji said. “I mean, how many members do they actually have? If they’ve been having this (same) number of members in previous years, if their membership has been constant in terms of numbers, why do they need more money?”
This question was posed as Athletic Bands have reported higher current numbers in their groups than previous years. The numbers were submitted to the ASG fiscal affairs committee as part of their report.
The Athletic Band Stipend funds the marching hornets, stingers dance team (fall and spring semester), hornet review pep band and ESU winter guard.
Many of the line item documentation left the senators with questions when the numbers didn’t add up, sources of other income weren’t listed and increases were asked for without a rationale, according to Agbaji and Paul Frost, junior accounting major.
The information that ASG submitted for their line items also didn’t add up, according to Malcolm Dad, senior accounting major.
ASG didn’t submit for an increase in funding, according to Frost. ASG also gets the highest amount of line item funds, more than $140,000.
The organizations will have until Oct. 1 to turn in their corrected paperwork to ASG, according to Agbaji.
The Center for Early Childhood Education, Visual Arts Board, Performing Arts Board, Sports Club, The Bulletin, “Quivira” are scheduled to present their proposals for their requested increase or to retain their current student fee levels from 8:15-9:30 p.m. Oct. 9 in the Great Plains room in the Memorial Union.
