The Hornet men fell in an away game Jan. 20 at Missouri Southern. ESU played a tight game and lost by only three points, with a final score of 77-74. It was their eighth loss of the season by a margin of five points or less.
Neither team scored within the first two minutes of the game. The Lions were the first to put points on the board with a 6-0 run, taking the lead.
Missouri Southern led by six with 11 minutes left in the half.
The Hornet men went on an 8-2 run and tied the game at 19 points. At the end of the second quarter, the Hornets were down by only two points, bringing the score to 32-34.
Missouri Southern scored the first four points of the second half. However, the Hornets were not far behind as two quick plays brought the score within one point, 37-38.
In the fourth quarter the Hornets went on a 10-0 run and gained a 63-59 lead. The Lions retaliated with back to back three pointers and continued their scoring streak to beat the Hornets, 74-77.
The Hornet men’s next game will be at 1:30 p.m this Sunday in William Allen White Auditorium. They will play Southwest Baptist University.
