Emporia State men’s basketball team loses in MIAA tournament opener to Lincoln University, 73-71, ending their season last Tuesday night. The Hornets ended their season with a record of 13-15.
This is ESU’s fourth losing record year in the five year tenure of Shaun Vandiver, head coach.
The Blue Tigers were out-rebounded by 11, 33-22. Despite being out-rebounded, Lincoln used 16 turnovers to help counter ESU.
The game was a game of runs as the Hornets were down by as many as 14 points.
The comeback started with a three-pointer by Terrence Moore, senior graduate, cutting the lead to 11. He and Kevin Allen, senior center, worked together for a 13-0 run.
Moore tied the game with 30 seconds left, hitting two free throws. The Blue Tigers answered with a layup with just four seconds left. Brandon Hall, freshman guard, missed a 30 foot shot as time expired to give Lincoln their first post-season victory in over 20 years.
Allen finished the game with 21 points and 14 rebounds. That’s Allen’s third double-double in the last five games.
Moore had 21 points as well, finishing his career with 1,638 career points, ranking him fifth all-time on that list. Moore also ranks second all-time in career steals with 230.
