The Emporia State tennis teams split a duel with William Jewell College, Monday afternoon, in separate contests at the Milton Courts and Hammond Park in
Emporia.
The Hornet men had solid performances on their way to an 8-1 victory. ESU would sweep doubles, playing 3-0, before winning five of six singles matches.
The only loss for the ESU men came in the #2 singles match. The successful day moved the Hornet men’s record to 13-3 in all competitions.
The Lady Hornets got off to a rough start as they lost all three doubles matches.
ESU grabbed its first victory of the day with a dominant 6-1, 6-2 wins by Kaley Clark, sophomore, in the #2 singles match. Amy Fugit, junior, captured a hard-fought win in the #3 singles competition, dispatching her opponent by a match score of 3-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-5).
William Jewell would claim the remaining competitions for a 7-2 victory.
With the defeat, the Lady Hornets’ record dropped to 9-6.
