The Emporia State baseball team lost games one and three of a weekend series to Lindenwood, 5-4 and 4-2, last Friday and Sunday.
In the bottom of the eighth inning in the first game, Lindenwood scored two runs to tie the game 4-4. A scoreless ninth inning led to one extra inning in which Lindenwood was able to score a final run.
ESU started off the second game with a strong lead. Lindenwood wasn’t able to score a run until the sixth inning, making the score 13-3. The Hornets scored five more runs in the seventh and final inning.
In game three, the Hornets dug themselves a 4-0 hole before scoring two runs in the eighth inning. The Hornets went 3-29 at the plate, a .103 average for the day.
The Lions batted almost .333 getting 10 hits on 29 at bats.
The Lions jumped to a one run lead in the bottom of first inning, with an RBI single. A two-RBI homerun for the Lions in the bottom of the sixth inning put them on top, 3-0. Another RBI single gave the Lions a 4-0 lead with only two innings left.
The Hornets scored their two runs in the top half of the eighth inning and held LU silent in the bottom half.
ESU had the top of the ninth to scrape across two runs, but Alex White, junior infielder, grounded into a double play to end the game.
The Hornets will look to bounce back against archrival Washburn at 5 p.m. next Wednesday at Trusler Sports Complex.
