The Emporia State softball team struggled to score as they dropped both games of a doubleheader to Northeastern State last Friday at Trusler Sports Complex.
Trailing, 1-0, into the bottom of the third in game one, ESU answered to take the lead. Cassidy Berry, sophomore outfielder, grounded out to shortstop with a runner on third to tie the game at 1-1.
Later in the inning, an RBI single by Danielle Sprinkle, sophomore outfielder, gave the Hornets a 2-1 lead.
ESU batters were limited to three hits for the rest of the game as RiverHawks starting pitcher, Kayce Wooldridge, was able to close out a 4-2 victory for Northeastern. It was her twenty-first win of the season.
The RiverHawks took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning of game two. They went on to score another run in the third before ESU cut the lead to 3-1 on a Sprinkle sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning.
Both teams were scoreless for the remainder of the game as Northeastern claimed a 3-1 win.
With the losses, the Lady Hornets dropped to 19-30 (7-15) on the season. ESU will finish their regular season at home next weekend with two games against Missouri Western.
