“The cold never bothered me anyway,” sings Elsa in the Disney movie “Frozen.”
I have always been among the people that are constantly cold. The times that I feel hot are so few that in a year I could count them on my fingers.
There is another group that is constantly feeling hot. With the first brightness of the sun they immediately put on sandals, t-shirts and shorts. And there I stand with my Eskimo coat wondering “How? How? How?!”
I never really searched for an answer. I preferred to have my own conclusions. Maybe health and individual body-functions are the reason. Some of us have higher blood pressure and others lower, thus some get hotter easier than others.
However, the only help I could think of to provide to myself was to just dress better.
Fortunately, I happened to read an article the other day with the title “Why Some People Always Feel Cold While Others Are Always Hot.”
Indeed, sometimes being uncomfortable at specific temperatures constantly is an indication of poor health that goes unnoticed, such as anemia, infection or weight issues.
Other reasons for the temperature extremes might be stress. The article also says that our happiness affects our temperature. If we are feeling isolated and lonely we might also feel colder, while when we are surrounded by people and feel more positively, we are energized and our temperature increases.
Our food intake also affects our temperature. Warmer foods, or foods with more protein can increase our body temperatures, while other foods that are colder, or with less fat in them, such as veggies and fruits will keep the body cold.
Especially during this time of the year in Kansas where the weather shifts from North Pole temperatures to Arizona weather, we should be careful of the things that affect our temperatures and not make the weather changes harder on our bodies. As students and workers, we need to feel as comfortable and healthy as possible in our environment.
Try to relax, and try to not stress. Be aware of what foods you need to eat to feel comfortable with hot n’ cold. Try to be surrounded by people when you feel lonely or try to be at less crowded places when you are extremely hot.
At times when you do not know what to do, visualize a place with the perfect temperature for you, as the article says. I have not tried it yet, but let’s try it together. Maybe it works!
