The Emporia State tennis team played four doubles, decided by two games, in a pair of losses to Nebraska-Kearney, last Saturday.
The men’s number one and number two doubles teams lost 8-6 as the Lopers took a 3-0 lead into singles play. Emporia State accomplished three victories in singles. Gerard Pont, sophomore, won 4-6, 7-5, 1-0 at number two singles, bringing him 10-3 overall.
Number three Matheus Mota, sophomore, picked up a 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 win with an overall of 10-5, and Farhan Sadique, junior, won 5-7, 6-4, 1-0 at number six singles.
The Lady Hornets dropped a pair of doubles as well, decided by two games. Freshmen Kristen Fraley and Sarah Durham won 8-4 at number three doubles.
Tawni Griffey, junior, and Kaley Clark, sophomore, lost 8-6 at number one doubles.
The Hornets had a 2-1 deficit going into single play after Amy Fugit, junior, and Lori Ahuji, freshman, lost 9-7 at number two.
The Hornets won three singles matches starting with Durham winning 6-1, 6-3 at number six, Griffey accomplishing a 6-3, 6-4 victories at number one. Clark won 6-7, 6-3, 1-0 at number two.
The Emporia State men face Newman University at 2 p.m. April 19, in Wichita. The Lady Hornets host the University of Central Oklahoma at 2 p.m. tomorrow.
