The Emporia State track team competed in one of the state’s biggest track meets over the weekend. The KU Relays started on April 21 and finished the 23.
ESU had two fourth place finishes starting the meet off on Thursday.
Monica Howard, junior, finished fourth in the multi-event. She was the highest Division II finisher in the event. She finished behind two Texas Tech athletes and one Kansas athlete.
Emily Schoenfeld, junior, turned in the other fourth place finish. She moved up to third in the all time list in the 5,000 meters, behind ESU alumni Trudy Searcy and Amy Potter.
ESU had four provisional qualifiers and five top five finishes on Friday.
Duke Tibbs qualified for the NCAA championships as he ran the second best 400m in Hornet history.
Carrie Kellie, senior, got a provisional qualifying mark in the triple jump to place fourth and tied with Nikki Wetstein for third all-time in ESU history.
On Saturday, the three athletes that qualified for finals finished in the top ten 10. Tibbs finished fourth in the 400 meter run. Thomas LaRoche, sophomore, finished first and Jordan Smith, senior, finished eighth in the 800 meter run.
Qualifiers will travel to Drake Relays on Saturday in Des Moines, Iowa. Others will go to Southwestern College on April 30.
