Emporia State’s Recreation Services Department held an intramural dodgeball tournament on Jan. 29. that had four teams competing. The names of the teams were Honeypot, Average Joes, Not in the Face! and Gunslingers.
The Gunslingers beat the other teams and won this year’s tournament.
“This is a good way for students to get away from the books and studying for a night and have some fun,” said Landon Nault, sophomore biology major and Gunslingers team member. “It really is a lot of fun and I think it’s a great way to have fun on campus.”
The activity is unique, as it is the only dodgeball related activity on campus, according to Josh Grosdidier, senior recreation management major and tournament staff members.
“This is a free event for students and I think they really enjoy being able to come out here and play,” Grosdidier said. “There are no dodgeball activities on campus, so this is a good opportunity for students to come and have fun playing dodgeball.”
These intramural leagues aren’t just a way for people to have fun and enjoy their free time with other students, it is also a free way to get active, according to Kaitlyn Eden, junior nursing major and member of the Honeypot team.
“Even though we didn’t have enough teams for both a women’s and men’s tournament, it’s still been a lot of fun,” Eden said. “I think these leagues are a lot of fun, and a great way to go out and get active.”
All the students involved had a great opportunity to have fun on campus and be active, according to Brittany Campbell, junior crime and delinquency major and staff member at the Student Recreation Center.
“I think these events are super fun,” Campbell said. “It helps people get involved on campus and it brings a lot of positive energy. They always run really well and we always have a lot of people wanting to participate.”
Throughout the academic year, ESU’s Recreation Services Department, holds several league events such as, flag football, soccer and volleyball.
The season for intramural basketball begins this month.
